Biology (all subjects, including ecology, animal physiology, animal behavior, earth and environmental sciences, field courses, evolution, cell biology, genetics, and microbiology)

I aim to excite students about what we know about nature, how we know what we know, and what remains a mystery. I do this by exploring stories about the life history of organisms and the environments they live in, and about how science expands and evolves our understanding of the complex world we live in!

Writing (including college essays, short-form assignments, resume/ cover letter, and research papers)

I think good writing is about finding the sweet spot where the big picture and supporting points are balanced and complementary. The most basic piece of advice I give my students (and myself) is to tell a story, and most of the time that quickly turns a would-be daunting assignment into a fun and fruitful exercise!

Independent Biology Research

Looking for an engaging and educational activity this summer? Look no further! Join Erich Eberts PhD, on a scientific journey through the topic that excites you most!

The goal of this 6-8+ week course is to fascinate students about the nature and world we live in.

Students will experience the scientific process, and develop critical thinking, project management, communication skills! Guided by Erich, they will identify a question that excites them, explore published literature on that topic, design their own study to address a specific hypothesis, perform data collection and statistical analysis, and finally tell their story in a poster or slideshow presentation, and/or written essay.

Research topics are up to the student’s interests and what is feasible in their environment. Some examples include hummingbird and bird behavior at feeders, diversity of insects in different microenvironments, distribution of trees in managed vs old growth forests, dog/ cat/ pet behavior, and plant growth rate in different growing conditions.

How to apply: Please send me an email with your name, age, location, brief description of your interests, educational/ career goals, any questions, and why you are interested in the course. We'll then have a free 30 minute discovery call to make sure we are a good fit, and discuss any questions you might have.

"Thank you for supporting me throughout my research journey thus far, starting from when I had a small idea to research hummingbirds, to now, with my very own provisional patent and amazing AGU poster. I truely wouldnt be where I am today without your support!"
